Must Visit Places in Bali

Bali, with its green paddy fields, temples, art markets and beaches, is one of the most picture perfect holidays you are ever going to take.

Here’s a small list of must visit places in Bali:

  • Tanah Lot: This rocky place in the water is home to the temple of Pura Tanah Lot, one of the most popular tourism spots. In the vicinity is Batu Bolong, which is a smaller temple. Put together, the two temples make for a breathtaking sight, beautifully set amongst crashing waves.
  • Uluwatu temple: This one of the most beautiful temples on the island. Built in the 11th century, the Uluwatu temple is one of the nine temples that are built in different directions, to protect the island from evil spirits. The temple also has a spectacular backdrop, ideal for photography.
  • Beaches of Bali: When you’re in Bali, you hit the beaches. The best beaches are around Jimbaran, Bukit Peninsula and Kuta. Canggu, Seminyak, Legian and Tuban are closer to Kuta, which itself has a nice but crowded beach. The other beach spots include, Jemeluk, (3 hours from Kuta), Amed (3 hours away from Kuta), Padangbai (an hour away from Kuta), Dream Beach, Nusa Lembongan (30 minutes from Sanur by boat), Sanur (30 minutes from Kuta), Bingin, Nusa Dua, and Balangan, all about 30 minutes from Kuta. Lovina is farther away (about 3 hours towards the north of Kuta). You could visit any one of these beaches for a fabulous sun-surf-sand experience, and enjoy some water sports as well! Here, you may rent sports gear and even take a course in the water sport of your choice. Uluwatu is also a great place for surfing if you’re an experienced surfer. You could visit Bukit for more sporting options; while Kuta is the ideal place for greenhorns and beginners.
  • Seminyak: Head to Seminyak if you want to enjoy the dazzle of Bali, with its boutique hotels, cafes and restaurants. And of course, there are the glorious beaches, and spa resorts for you to experience while at Seminyak.
  • Ubud: This is a lovely cultural centre in the heart of Bali, known for its ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ experience. You can feast your eyes on the lush green paddy fields, enjoy local food, visit art markets and museums to get a complete taste of Balinese culture. The Monkey Forest is another famed excursion while at Ubud.
  • Mount Batur: The mountain, also known as the Kintamani volcano, is a spectacular sight, that is a must-see for anyone travelling to Batur. The crescent-shaped Lake Batur is located at the foot of Mount Batur, filling a major part of the Mount’s crater, making it a primary area of interest. Kintamani is 2 hours away from Denpasar or Lovina.

Bali offers an endless number of spectacular sights, which makes it impossible to include every one of the remarkable ones in this list. The period between May and July is the ideal time for a vacation in Bali. Although your preferences may vary depending on whether you’re an explorer, a surfer or a culture buff. Accommodation is never an issue while you’re in Bali, as there are a number of budget hotels, mid-range hotels and 5 star hotels in Bali to suit every traveller’s requirements.
